Hello!
You have reached the website of Dr. Ryan Y. D. Yang.
I am currently living in Silicon Valley, California.

On the professional side, I would describe myself as an entrepreneurial scientist with a passion
for the commercialisation of science. As an open minded individual I find many areas of science,
technology and business interesting. I am particularly interested in Information Technology and
Big Data and how they change science (and society). I do believe technology is one of the major
driving forces influencing the future, and commercialisation of scientific research is the best form
of development for breakthrough ideas that have been researched in academia. Hence I also have
interests in technology transfer, commercialization and new ventures.

My Research Interests

As a expericenced research data scientist in predictive modeling, machine learning and data mining, I am always interested to apply those techniques to various applications, Cancer Genomics and Personalized Medicine are among the most promising areas.

Cancer Genomics

Lead bioinformatics research programs that focus on characterization of cancer genomes for determination of pathogenic driver mutations.

Drug Discovery

Applied structure-based molecular design techniques to support medicinal chemistry on cancer drug discovery projects. Developed and optimized statistical models and machine-learning algorithms for assessing drug efficacy, metabolism and toxicity from panel screening data sets.

My professional journey so far.

I am currently working on the development of Circulating Tumor DNA (ctDNA) based liquid biopsy technology for personalized cancer treatment at Stanford University in California. Prior to joining Stanford, I co-funded Virtual Reach Technology Ltd, worked at BC Cancer Agency and The University of British Columbia in Canada, AstraZeneca R&D in Sweden, CrownBio in China, and Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. I am an alumnus of Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University in Ireland, The University of Leeds in England, and Ryerson University in Canada.

On the personal side of things,

The buzzwords that cover what I am interested in are:

  • Information Technology

Computers has been a big part of my life. I learn coding since I needs the flexibility of the command line to write my own scripts for specialized applications.

  • Data Science

Once we could identify needs, as well as knowing how to visually express logic, so we can understand the realm of possibility and then envision game-changing innovations.

  • Life Science

Programming languages are designed to solve problems, since human health have concrete problems to solve, this is a compelling reason to extend my knowledge and depth of understanding of life science via research.

  • Sports

I love watching and playing many kinds of sports. I played table tennis, badminton, volleyball, and soccer when I was young, in recent years, I mostly focused on playing Tennis, Golf and Swimming.

  • Music and Art

What does art mean to me? Art means fun, imagination, creativity and in its broadest sense, is a form of communication. It is my favorite thing to see and do. My emotion and feeling somehow get into the process of graphic design and learning to play instruments.

  • Travel

I enjoy traveling and having experience with different cultures. I've lived and worked in many different countries such as Canada, UK, Ireland, Sweden, China, USA, and these places are associated with some of the most important moments of my life.

I am a Canadian

enjoy networking and take bribes in the form of Sushi or Whiskey.
